Legal basis, terms and personal data

This page is a translation. If the English and Swedish versions differ, the Swedish version applies.

Applies to all of myaccount.se. Last updated 3 October 2026.

This page sets out what the exam archives rely on, which terms apply when you use the site, and which data about you is processed. It is written to be direct: where the support is clear, that is stated, and where there is uncertainty, that is stated too.

About the site

MyAccount is run privately by a student, with no connection to any university. The site is free, shows no ads and does not accept payments. The exam archives currently cover Chalmers University of Technology, Linköping University, KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Lund University, University of Gothenburg, University of Borås, Stockholm University, Luleå University of Technology, Uppsala University and Jönköping University. In addition to the archives there is full-text search in Swedish statutory text, exam statistics and the assistant Mya, built on a language model.

MyAccount does not speak for any university and does no work for them. The universities' names and logos belong to each university and are shown only to identify which archive an exam comes from. That does not mean the university is behind the site or has approved it.

Questions, objections and requests for removal are sent via the contact page.

Legal basis for the exams

The principle of public access (offentlighetsprincipen)

Swedish state universities and university colleges are public authorities. An exam that has been sat is a document drawn up and held by the authority, and is therefore a public document (allmän handling) under Chapter 2 of the Freedom of the Press Act (tryckfrihetsförordningen, TF). Everyone has the right to access public documents unless they are covered by secrecy.

The secrecy that may apply to exams is found in Chapter 17, Section 4 of the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act (offentlighets- och sekretesslagen, OSL): information in a test of knowledge may be kept secret if disclosing it would defeat the purpose of the test, in practice when the same questions are to be reused. The archives only contain exams that have already been given. If a university states that a particular exam should nonetheless be kept secret, it is removed.

Chalmers University of Technology and Jönköping University are foundation-run universities (stiftelsehögskolor) and not state authorities. They are, however, listed in the annex to the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act, which means that the rules on public documents apply to them as well.

Copyright

That a document is public does not mean it lacks copyright. An exam can be a protected work, and the rights to it may belong to the university or to the teacher who wrote it. Two provisions of the Swedish Copyright Act (upphovsrättslagen, 1960:729) are decisive:

  • Section 26 b, first paragraph: public documents must be disclosed under the Freedom of the Press Act regardless of copyright. This gives the right to obtain the exams.
  • Section 26 a, second paragraph: documents drawn up at Swedish public authorities may be reproduced by anyone. The third paragraph, however, excludes among other things works created for teaching, and case law has not settled whether exams fall within that exception.

The site therefore relies on the exams being public documents that may be reproduced under Section 26 a, and on the universities themselves widely publishing past exams openly on their course pages. Anyone who considers that the exception in the third paragraph applies to specific material can object, see the next section.

Access to the archives

The exams are shown only to logged-in users with a verified email address at the university the archive covers, or at Chalmers. This is a choice made by the site, not a legal requirement: it keeps distribution within the group the material is intended for and makes it possible to suspend accounts that misuse the archives.

There is a limit on how many different exams an account can download per week, shared across all archives. The limit exists so that the archives cannot be copied in their entirety.

Objections and removal

The exams are public documents. The right to access them follows from the Freedom of the Press Act, and the right to reproduce them from Section 26 a of the Copyright Act. The site therefore does not remove an exam just because someone asks. Removal happens in three cases:

  • The university shows that the exam is covered by secrecy under Chapter 17, Section 4 of the Public Access to Information and Secrecy Act, that is, that the questions are to be reused.
  • The exam contains information about an individual, for example a name or a personal identity number (personnummer) included by mistake.
  • A rights holder shows that the material falls under the exceptions in Section 26 a, third paragraph, of the Copyright Act, so that the right to reproduce it does not apply.

Objections are sent via the contact page with the course code, the exam sitting and which of the cases above is invoked. Every objection is answered.

Terms of use

  • The material is intended for preparation and revision. It must not be used during an ongoing examination. Unauthorised aids can lead to disciplinary measures under Chapter 10 of the Higher Education Ordinance (högskoleförordningen, 1993:100), including suspension.
  • Accounts are personal. Do not share your login, and do not circumvent the verification or the download limit.
  • The archives must not be copied systematically, whether by hand or with scripts, and the content must not be posted on other services.
  • Accounts that break the terms may be suspended without warning.

Other tools

The law search retrieves statutory text from the Swedish Parliament's (Riksdagen) open data. Acts and other statutes are exempt from copyright under Section 9 of the Copyright Act. The text may lag behind Parliament's own publication, so always check it against the original source before relying on it.

The exam statistics show the number of students sitting and the share who passed per exam sitting. They are compiled at course level and contain no information about individuals.

Mya (the assistant in the corner and in the exam reader) is built on Google's language model Gemini. When you use it, what you write, and the text of the exam you have open, is sent to Google's API so that an answer can be generated. Your username and email address are not sent. The answers may contain errors and do not replace the course material.

Exam mode (the marking of your own solutions) works the same way. What you write is sent to Google together with the text of the exam and its answer sheet, which you never see during the exam. If you add handwritten solutions, the photos you take are stored on the server for at most one day, sent to Google so that the handwriting can be read and marked, and then deleted. They are only available to your own account. The marking is an AI estimate and not an examiner’s assessment.

Personal data

Processing follows the General Data Protection Regulation (EU) 2016/679 and the Swedish Data Protection Act (dataskyddslagen, 2018:218). The controller is the person who runs the site, who can be reached via the contact page.

What is processed, and why

Recipients and storage

The data is stored with the site's web host and is not sold, not shared and not used for advertising. The only thing that leaves the site is what you yourself send to Mya, which goes to Google as described above and may therefore be processed outside the EU/EEA. Icon fonts and typefaces are loaded from cdnjs (Cloudflare) and Google Fonts, which see your IP address when the files are fetched.

The data is kept for as long as the account exists. If you delete the account, the data is deleted. Temporary counters per IP address are cleared continuously.

Your rights

  • View and change your data under My account.
  • Download a copy of your data under My account, Privacy and data.
  • Delete the account under My account, Delete account. Everything linked to the account is removed.
  • Object to processing that is based on legitimate interest, via the contact page.
  • Lodge a complaint with the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (Integritetsskyddsmyndigheten, IMY) if you consider the processing to be incorrect.

Cookies and local storage

The site only uses cookies that are needed for it to work, in accordance with Chapter 9, Section 28 of the Swedish Electronic Communications Act (lagen om elektronisk kommunikation). No tracking cookies, no visitor statistics from third parties.

  • PHPSESSID: your login session. Disappears when the browser is closed.
  • remember_device: set only if you choose "remember me". Can be removed under My account, Devices.
